January 23
National Day of Solidarity with Minnesota
Friday, January 23 is a National Day of Solidarity and push for corporate accountability led by Minnesota organizers and national allies.
ICE and Border Patrol are storming our streets and harassing and detaining people without due process based on the color of their skin, their language or accent, or where they live. Masked federal agents are teargassing babies and pastors, seizing our neighbors and shipping them off to foreign torture prisons, and killing innocent people.
On Wednesday, January 7th, an American citizen, Renee Nicole Good, was killed by ICE in Minneapolis. Renee wasn’t the first victim of ICE — thirty-two people reportedly died in ICE custody last year — and the violence will only continue to escalate if we don’t show up together and stand up to ICE. Tell the Trump administration, Congress, all lawmakers, and corporations: We need to take action NOW to get ICE out of our communities for good.
If you live in Minnesota:
Come together on January 23 for a statewide day of non-violent moral action and reflection. No work, no school, no shopping — only community, conscience, and collective action.
outside of Minnesota:
Take action on January 23 in solidarity by organizing or attending a non-violent solidarity event, demanding corporations stand up to ICE, and calling on Congress to act now to rein in ICE.
No work.
No school.
No shopping.
No work. No school. No shopping.
Minnesota Actions
WHAT’S HAPPENING:
Minnesotans are coming together in reflection and action to stand together against the federal government’s actions against the state of Minnesota. There will be a unified, statewide pause in daily economic activity - an act of collective resistance we have not seen in generations. More than one hundred faith, community and labor organizations are urging the people of Minnesota to spend time with family, neighbors, and their communities to show Minnesota’s heart and collective economic power. This means:
No work (except emergency services)
No school
No shopping or consumer spending
There will also be a peaceful march and rally in downtown Minneapolis at 2:00pm.
WHAT WE’RE DEMANDING:
ICE must leave Minnesota now.
The officer who killed Renee Good must be held legally accountable.
No additional federal funding for ICE in the upcoming Congressional budget and ICE should be investigated for human and Constitutional violations of Americans and our neighbors.
We call upon Minnesota and National Companies to become 4th Amendment businesses, cease economic relations with ICE and refuse ICE entry or using their property for staging grounds.
Nationwide Actions
Organize or attend a solidarity event
Show your solidarity with the activists in Minnesota by organizing a demonstration or protest meant to draw attention to how the Trump regime is using ICE to terrorize our communities.
A core principle behind all ICE Out For Good events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. All events should be held in public spaces or on public property.
Demand corporations stand with us and stand up to ICE
Join organizers in Minnesota and national partners to pressure corporations including Target, Hilton, Enterprise, Home Depot, and Delta to show up for our communities and stand up to ICE. Call or email each corporation to demand they take action to rein ICE out of our communities NOW.
Our demands include:
Publicly call for an immediate end to the ICE “surge” into MN and for ICE to leave the state;
The officer who killed Renee Good must be held legally accountable. Demand a legitimate investigation with state involvement.
Exercise their 4th Amendment rights and publicly post signage denying entrance to on-duty immigration agents who do not have signed judicial warrants as required by law, as well train staff on how to respond when immigration agents arrive at stores and worksites.
Publicly call for Congress to freeze funding for ICE.
priority Focus: Target
On January 8th, Customs and Border Protection agents attacked and detained two US citizens who were employees at the Richfield, MN Target. Minnesota sports teams play in stadiums and jerseys with Target’s logo on them. Target is headquartered in Minneapolis and is Minnesota’s fourth largest employer. They should be standing with the people of Minnesota and speaking out against ICE’s invasion of the state.
Other companies we demand take action
Demand Congress act now to rein in ICE
Demand Congress refuse to fund ICE and Border Patrol without serious reforms. Every Member of Congress should publicly oppose the DHS appropriations bill unless it:
Strengthens restrictions on ICE and Border Patrol’s ability to conduct dragnet arrest operations and target people based on their race, language or accent, place of employment, or location at the time of the apprehension;
Ends Border Patrol deployment to our cities and rejects its ever-expanding mandate in immigration enforcement; and
Limits DHS's reprogramming and transfer authority, including specifically preventing reprogramming and transferring funds for detention.
The current DHS funding bill does not meet these demands, and all Members of Congress should oppose it.
